About the Unit

Article (16) of Law No. (106) of 2013 and its amendments concerning combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism stipulates the establishment of a unit called the "Kuwaiti Financial Intelligence Unit," which shall have an independent legal personality and shall operate as the entity responsible for receiving, requesting, analyzing, and referring information related to what is suspected to be proceeds of crime, or funds related to or connected with it, or which may be used to carry out money laundering or the financing of terrorism, in accordance with the provisions of this law.

Who We Are

Article (16) of Law No. (106) for the year 2013 and its amendments concerning Anti-Money Laundering and Combating The Financing of Terrorism to establish A Unit called the "Kuwait Financial Intelligence Unit". It shall be an independent legal person and serve as the agency responsible for receiving, requesting, analyzing, and disseminating information concerning suspected proceeds of crime or funds related, linked to or to be used for money laundering or terrorism financing according to the provisions of this Law.

To maintain the integrity of the banking sector and contribute to protecting the national economy by developing and strengthening anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing systems, and to protect the State of Kuwait from illicit activities, thereby contributing to transforming the State of Kuwait into a global financial and commercial center, in accordance with the Kuwait Vision 2035.

The mission of Kuwait Financial Intelligence Unit (KwFIU) is to preserve the integrity of the banking and financial sector in the State of Kuwait and protect it from money laundering offence, predicate offences and financing of terrorism offence through complying with international standards and ensuring effective cooperation with competent authorities to achieve national and international peace and security.
